| Class G1: Hot Glass Basics Prerequisites: None Discover the glassblowing studio: The tools, glassblower's bench, furnace, safety, and how to gather hot glass on an iron gathering rod. To begin, students create at least one clear glass paperweight, and another with color/decoration. They then start blowing glass using a blowpipe and learn basic glassblowing skills: Gathering, marvering, blowing a bubble (or parison, the foundation for blown glass) and putting in a neck line. One basic hand-blown ornament and another with color application will be created. | Class G2: Making the Tumbler Prerequisites: Class G1 or basic experience Develop your skills by making more glass ornaments, then learn to create a tumbler! Students create drinking glasses and other work with hot bits and decoration. Each student creates a tumbler or two for decoration or everyday use of their choice and design. |
Class G3: Hot Glass Lab Prerequisites: Class G2 or basic experience Hot Glass Lab is all about building confidence through hands-on experience in a loosely structured, open-floor setting. Students can put on music, discuss ideas and explore new forms of glassblowing as they continue to develop their individual style as a glass artist. After strengthening their skills as a glassblower in this lab a few times, they are invited to take their artistry to the next level - rent glassblowing studio time on one's own or with others to hone their craftsmanship and express their own visions in glass. |
