Glassblowing combines personal artistry with physical dexterity, as the glass material can only be blown and shaped while molten, at 2400 degrees.

Melting

The process of glassblowing starts with melting glass, also called "charging." A mixture of silica, soda lime, minerals and oxides is added to a large ceramic crucible inside a gas-powered furnace and heated to 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. After 12 hours, the glass is fully melted and ready to be used.
